POW WOW DATES FOR 2024
SEPTEMBER 20-21-22, 2024
COUNCIL WOMAN CHRISTIE CRYSTAL WOLF BROWN HAS ARRANGED THE FOLLOWING FOR OUR POWWOW
Northern Cherokee Nation Powwow
Saturday, September 21, 2024
Dickerson Park Zoo of Springfield, Missouri
Eagle Demonstration
Osiyo! We have some exciting news about our 2024 powwow! Please mark your calendars for Saturday, September 21, 2024. The Dickerson Park Zoo’s Education Department will be at our powwow! Two of the department’s longtime eagle handlers will be attending with a Bald Eagle and a Golden Eagle for a demonstration. Their main eagle handler has been working with the eagles for over 20 years and has attended many powwows across the area. Along with the eagles, two more handlers will be also be attending with some surprise native to Missouri animals. Keep checking in for more details!
The Eagle Demonstration will take place at the powwow on Saturday 21, 2024 from 11:00 AM to 12:00 PM and the Native to Missouri Animals Demonstration will be from 12:30 PM to 1:30 PM. We kindly ask you to respect the safety precautions that will be in place. Please do not bring your pets to the area during those times. Please respect the barrier around the handlers, eagles, and other animals during that time. They have also asked that people in the area please remain seated during the demonstration, as much as possible, to refrain from startling these spectacular raptors!
In case you are not familiar with The Dickerson Park Zoo, they are located in Northwest Springfield at 1401 W Norton Rd, Springfield, MO 65803. They were founded in 1923 and at least 6 generations of my family have enjoyed visiting the animals, staff, and volunteers. They are well-known for the conservation and education department and often travel to share their mission and love for the animals they care for. They also have an animal hospital and wildlife rehab, specializing in raptor rehabilitation. Yes, that includes the beautiful Bald Eagle!
The Dickerson Park Zoo has been able to remain open for over 100 years now due to donations from the community and patrons. Please visit them if you are in the area. You will be glad you did!
