Naming Ceremony Celebrated
During National American Indian Heritage Month
During the Northern Cherokee Nation's tribal council meeting on November 8, Chief Grey Elk (pictured at right) bestowed Native American names on four citizens -- Jane Hicks, Ginny Long, Rita Bow, and Tony Easter. Jane was given the name "Buffalo Sister"; Ginny was named "Hummingbird"; Rita as "Gentle Rain"; and Tony was named "Running Wolf".
"This is an important ceremony for these four citizens," stated Chief Grey Elk. "I'm pleased that we could celebrate National Native American Month with a special naming ceremony for these citizens."
